Defining and Sustaining God's Fire: Consuming Fire

Vision: water flows to the deepest part.

All Consuming Fire.

1 Kings 18: 30-46
  • Repairing the Altar of the Lord /// Salvation and Jesus repairing our hearts.
  • 12 Stones /// Completeness, God will never do something inside of you that will not last. He takes the time to do it correctly, and with absolute certainty. 12 stones shows completeness as well as stability.
  • Trench around the altar /// Deepest parts of our heart.
  • Wood /// Dead parts in our heart, mind, spirit. Things that we know are not bringing God glory.
  • Bull /// Live parts in our heart, mind, spirit. Things that we know do bring him glory. We need to be able to let go of not only the "bad" things in our life, but also the "good" things in our life.
  • 4 Large Jars of Water. Drenched the Altar 3 Times (12 jars total) /// Maybe this has to do with Baptism? The water signifying life and newness. It also reminds me of Jesus' when he died, there was water that flowed from His side, signifying death.
  • Prayer ("so these people will know that you are God") SO THAT /// The Father is moved when we speak. Elijah prayed to God for the purpose of other people to know God. God showed up.
  • Fire Fell Consuming everything. /// Baptism of the Holy Spirit. The fire even burned up the water, showing the depth of God's power. God will burn things you didn't even think were POSSIBLE.
  • Chained and slaughtered the enemy. /// Not letting any unholy thing rule in your life. Not only that, not even letting those dark things LIVE in you. Elijah had the enemy slaughtered. It might seem extreme but it says in Scripture: Take every thought captive and make it obedient unto Christ. After you become saved, baptized, and filled with the Holy Spirit, it is up to you to kick out residents that don't belong.
  • Celebration through eating and drinking. /// Following God is FUN.
  • End of the famine. /// Letting God show up and consume the dead things inside of you, letting God baptize you with his Holy Spirit, putting to death sin in your life, and celebrating God and his faithfulness to you will bring the end of the Famine.
    • Garment of Praise for heaviness.
    • Beauty for ashes, meaning God will give you something beautiful in exchange for what he burned up inside of you.
  • 7 times made to go and check for rain. ///
  • Small cloud, with faith, can bring huge impact. ///
Testimony: My friend from college who now lives in Turkey and works an elementary teacher, spent a week praying for the Muslim church. During one of the prayer nights there was a time of praise and worship, and she hurt her knee while dancing during worship. Here's the testimony from that night that she sent me:
"My knee was swollen and bothering me. The 5 and 6 year old's teachers invited people to go get prayer from the kids so the kids could practice. So the kids made this little blessing tunnel where they were supposed to listen to God about what to bless each person with and then touch the person's hand and say whatever God had said to them.  But instead of a blessing for me, every single kid looked in my eyes and said, "Heal her God!" By the time I got upstairs my knee was healed."

Questions:
1. What stands out to you after hearing this testimony?
2. How does this demonstrate Revival?
3. Speak about ways you listen to God's voice day to day, or ways you want to get better.
4. Discuss any further questions or comments students might have about Elijah and the Bible story.
5. Pray
