 Hee-Haw

Jesus rode into town on a donkey, the week before he was to be crucified and set all of humanity free from death and destruction and the grave. He rode in a donkey. We have heard this story one million times, but this time reading it through hit me differently. Jesus was perfect. Jesus was the ultimate sacrifice for our sin because he had no sin. He carried perfection, holiness and purity in every step. His heart was never polluted with any hateful thought or bitter feeling or jealous strain. His mind never thought one sinful thought. His mouth said nothing unholy. I am in awe of this fact. I am overwhelmed in thinking that Jesus walked this earth for me, so that I could have eternity with Him.

Everything Jesus did here on earth points to God and has fulfilled some epic prophecy. Jesus was mentioned and foretold to be born in Bethlehem. He fulfilled a prophecy that he would die and live again. Amazingly, this has never happened to me. I did not have my birth foretold. I have yet to find a book that was written 300 years ago that details facts about my life. Not only did the Bible foretell the life of Jesus, but it also foretold his FUTURE. Unbelievable. Mind blowing. Heart shaking.

Think about how you get to school. Think about how you get to work. Think about a time you went into town to run some errand. What car were you in? Was there a historic book written detailing the vehicle you rode in, on one random Tuesday when you were going to Meijer? Jesus has a book written about that one time He went to Jerusalem, just like any other day, but it foretold how He would get there: A DONKEY. How in the world can we deny the prophetic nature of Scripture or the prophetic nature that is Jesus? Secret message: yippee-kai-oh.

"See your king comes to you, righteous and victorious, lowly and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey." Zechariah 9:9

This book was written in about 520 BC. Jesus rode in on a donkey around 36 AD. Doing the math...556 years. 556 years before Jesus went to Jerusalem on a donkey, Zechariah already wrote about it..!!!!!!!! HOW. I'm not sure what my next vehicle will be in the next FIVE years, much less 556 YEARS.

Breathe. I am getting overwhelmed and breathing heavily. This simple act of riding into town on a donkey is deeply and richly prophetic, and exactly the way that God wrote Jesus' story.

What actions can you walk in right now that seem as small or little as riding a donkey, but could have real impact on the story God is writing in your life? Sometimes just showing up to school with love for others is enough. Sometimes choosing not to yell at your parents is enough. Sometimes giving your money to missions instead of a new car is enough. What donkey moment is Jesus calling you to do?
